Q: I’ve tried different exercises to increase my pecs but I need some help to reach this goal. Which exercises do you recommend to increase them?

“Use more dumbells because it gives a more complete movement. Then do barbell bench press after dumbell inclines. The most important thing is you have to do different exercises like cable crossovers, dumbell inclines, dips, flat bench barbell and vertical chest machine. When you’re doing five exercises it gives better stimulation to the whole chest and better results. It’s also important to stretch to get more blood and oxygen into the muscle and the workout will feel much better. Also, don’t forget to take MuscleTech supplements. “

Q: Who do you consider your biggest threat in 2007?

“There are a lot of good competitors right now, especially the bigger guys. A lot of them are on Team MuscleTech and of course one of them is my good friend – Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler. Jay has a lot of discipline and he knows what he’s doing. But he also knows that I’m a competitor and that I work very hard as well. He knows it’s not going to be easy, because we are both going for the same thing. Jay is the biggest threat. The rest of the guys I’ve beat before, so I consider Jay my biggest competition. I’ve got to be ready to bring the most complete package so that I can compete against Jay. It’s going to be an interesting show this year.”

Q: You have access to the world’s best supplements, something some of your top competitors don’t. To what extent do you feel this gives you an advantage?

“Being on Team MuscleTech and having access to their supplements definitely gives me an advantage. When it comes to other sports, you’ll play better if you have more advanced equipment. It’s the same for bodybuilding. You need the best supplements to be at the top of the sport. It’s about nutrition, supplementation and lifestyle. Once you get the best supplements, you can feed the best musclebuilding ingredients into your muscles and your body will grow.

With a quality creatine formula like Cell-Tech Hardcore and an advanced protein supplement like Nitro-Tech Hardcore, you are going to see a lot of results. Of course, I’m going to be one of the best bodybuilders in the world because I’ve got the best supplements in the world. That’s also why I don’t worry about the other guys. I’ve got a huge advantage, but then again, that’s why my toughest competition is Jay Cutler – because he’s using the same supplements I am.”

Q: In previous years, you’ve used a secret weapon, such as a new trainer or new supplement, to help you come into peak condition. What weapons are you adding to your arsenal this year?

“I’ve been using Aplodan for my off-season and I look great. This is a supplement that I’ve been anticipating for a long time. Now I got it in my hands and I feel strong enough to train with any powerlifter in the world. I feel in control and very confident that I’ll have more muscle size when I step on stage. Aplodan is going to make me bigger and better with the best balance I’ve ever had. When I’m on Aplodan I feel like no one is stronger than me. I’ve always had great results with it.”

Q: Do you think anyone is training harder than you for the “O”?

“I try not to think about that too much. I try to push myself and not let other people affect my training. There are a lot of guys that don’t train that hard. I’ve seen Jay Cutler train and I train just as hard as him. Some guys say they train heavy but they really don’t. My cardio is very intense as well. My middle name is “Hard Work!”

Q: How are you going to make sure that you beat the recent 8-time Mr. Olympia?

“I don’t think that he is the guy to win the show this year. I respect him because he won eight Mr. Olympia titles, but he’s an old guy now. I call him Grandpa. I think he should move on and compete in the Masters Class. The guy I do have to worry about is Jay Cutler. The other guy will try to make a lot of hype for himself, but in the end it comes down to reality, and the reality is that his time is done. He can talk and talk but what is he going to bring to the stage? I’m in my prime, with the best supplements behind me. So it’s my time now to make a run at the title.”

Q: Are you pulling for the rest of Team MuscleTech?

“Team MuscleTech has a lot of good athletes competing this year and I wish the best for everyone. I am going to try to beat everyone on stage, and as I said, my biggest threat is Jay. However, I will still be looking out for Dexter Jackson. He’s a friend of mine too, but we are both competitors who are trying to win. I think that the top three at this year’s Olympia will all be Team MuscleTech athletes. The other guys are going to try to make a stand, but it’s impossible. The fans want to watch the best bodybuilding show in the world, and they are going to see Dexter, me and Jay take the top three!”

Olympia Blog Questions

July 17th, 2007 by Gustavo Badell

Q: What type of gains did you make in the off-season? How much do you weigh now and at what body fat percentage?

“I made great gains! I added quality muscle and more size. Every year I do something different in order to bring the most complete physique to the stage. I did pretty well at my last show, the Arnold Classic, and I liked my condition. But I would like to bring a little bit more size to the Olympia. So I ate more quality meals and increased my calories this off-season. I also always remember to take my supplements. It’s extremely important to take them all year round. Most people will forget this simply because they aren’t competing.

At my biggest I was 275 pounds at 13 to 14 percent body fat. For me that isn’t bad. I’ve made a lot of improvements in quality muscle this off-season, and that all came back to taking the right supplements and eating more quality food.”

Q: What body parts did you bring up during your off-season training?

“To win in bodybuilding you have to be perfect. You need to bring up all your muscle groups to be complete. I am very balanced already so I don’t want to focus too much on one bodypart. I don’t want people to remember me for having the greatest arms or shoulders – I want them to remember me for bringing the most complete package to every show.”

Q: What was your off-season supplement stack?

“I used Cell-Tech Hardcore after every workout, and I took Nitro-Tech Hardcore throughout the day – in the morning, between meals, after I worked out and before bed. I also used Hydroxycut Hardcore, LEUKIC, GAKIC and Aplodan every day.

LEUKIC helps make sure I am anabolic. It’s especially important when you’re not competing because it’s really easy to forget a meal and get into a catabolic state. Using LEUKIC twice a day helped me keep my muscle size.”

Q: How much protein and carbohydrates did you consume daily during your off-season? At 14 weeks out, what stage are you at with your Olympia preparations? Have you started your pre-contest diet?

“I relied on GAKIC, LEUKIC and Aplodan to fuel my workouts, but I would also cycle my carbs. I would lower my carbs for five days and then raise them for three days so that my muscles would fill out and could see how I was progressing. I would raise my carbs on days that I didn’t train. I was building quality muscle but I was still putting on overall size. During the five days of depleting, my carbs would be at 150 grams and then on the three days of loading I would bring them up to 450 grams.

I’ve started my diet 18 weeks out for the first time in my life. I want to be ready at the Mr. Olympia because this is the most important show in bodybuilding. It’s the Super Bowl of bodybuilding, and I want to be perfect. I don’t want to just place in the top 10 – I want to win the show! I’ve been close the last three years and I’m more serious about winning now than ever. I’m trying to bring the fans the best package I can. I’m ahead of schedule right now. I’ve been traveling a lot all over the world and all my fans are keeping me motivated.”

Q: Compare your conditioning this year to your conditioning when you started your diet for last year’s Mr. Olympia. What changes have you made?

“I hadn’t even started my prep this time last year. Team MuscleTech and all my fans have motivated me to start my prep sooner so that I know I’ll be more than ready. This time last year I looked good, but you can always look better and that’s what I’ve tried to do this year. I’ve noticed over the last few years that I look better if I start my prep earlier. Bodybuilding is not just a sport, but a lifestyle, and if you respect that lifestyle for more weeks out of the year you will only look better. I’m more confident this year than ever because I am starting earlier and I’m already far ahead of schedule.

I use different diets all the time and change it based on the way I look. I gauge how I’m changing and let the mirror dictate what I need to do with my diet. All diets work, but you need to know when to use certain diets. With the right supplements every diet can be good, and that’s what I have. I have the best supplements in the world to help me with my prep.”
